Seattle Restaurant Week: Volterra

Friday, October 25, 2013

It was just perfect that my 3 years and 2 month anniversary with my boyfriend landed on Seattle Restaurant Week! He took me to Volterra in Kirkland because we have heard some rave reviews about this place and was eager to check it out. Appetizer, main course, and dessert for 28 bucks! What a great deal.

We were quickly greeted by the hostess and after a couple minutes, we were seated at our table. I loved where we sat because it was right in front of their open-air kitchen.

Their website can be found here.

Appetizers: Kobe Beef MeatballAmerican Wagu beef meatball with spicy eggplant, tomato fonduta and peperonata
Pear Gorgonzola Salad
Poached pear, candied pistachio, gorgonzola, mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette.

The Kobe beef was seasoned to perfection and the tomatoes were a good addition to the nice and moist texture of the meat. The caramelized walnuts in the salad were so good! I really enjoyed the light dressing because it's healthy and the pears made it more indulging.

Main Course: Wild Boar Tenderloin
Wild boar tenderloin roasted and served with a Gorgonzola and mustard sauce, rosemary Yukon Gold potatoes and seasonal market vegetables.

Seafood Stew
Clams, Mussels, lobster, prawns and today’s fresh fish in a saffron scented tomato broth
with toasted almonds, fennel sald and saffron aioli bruschetta.

I usually have to eat my steak with the famous A1 Steaksauce but the buttery sauce on this steak was a nice alternative. I liked that it came with a zucchini salad on the side instead of fries. LESS CARBS! :) I am a lover of seafood so I had to try the seafood stew. It was magnificent with the clams, mussels, shrimp, and fish. The only downside of this dish was the soup was a tad bit salty but dipping the table bread in it was a good dilution.

Desserts: Goat Cheese Cake
Goat cheese cake with amaretti crumb crust and seasonal compote.

Chocolate Orange Cake
Chocolate orange cake with chocolate mousse, citrus syrup and chocolate tuile.

My boyfriend is not a huge fan of sweets so he did not eat much at this point. I wish we did not order the cheese cake because it was VERY creamy but I wanted to try something different.  The raspberry on the cheesecake was tasteful but the graham crust on the bottom was a disappointment because it was really hard and we couldn't bite through it. We were both not a big fan of the chocolate orange cake either because we felt it was too packed with chocolate. We both took a bite and were done. At least the desserts were aesthetically pleasing!

We would recommend this restaurant due to their sleek look, tasteful food, and wonderful customer service. Maybe next time, we'll skip the dessert.

Love,
N
